I took a little break from the blog, but I’m back – just in time for my favorite season for shopping! There are so many good items out there, but I figured I’d share with you a few of my absolute Fall favorites. These are the items I am constantly reaching for in my closet:
The Matte Opaque Tights from Wolford are hands-down my favorite fall/winter item. Often, my friends balk when I tell them I spent $55 on tights. But, these tights are totally worth it. Let me explain: First, they are really, truly opaque. They are the perfect black tight in terms of looks. They also keep my legs insanely warm (for tights). Yes, you will not be as warm as you would be wearing wool pants, but I’ve worn them out plenty of times in the dead of winter and been ok. (And I’m not a person who enjoys the cold.) Most importantly, however, these things last. I generally buy new pairs every two to three years or so and I pretty much wear each pair 1-3 times a week. I throw them in the washer (yes washer!) after each wear and then hang dry them. The only time I have ever got a run in these things was when my dog scratched my leg begging for me to pet him (and even then, it was a tiny run.) I am not a person who is gentle on my tights, so this is saying something. I figure I could purchase sub-par tights at $10 per pair several times a year or purchase one of these every 2-3 years. One is ultimately the cheaper and the more environmentally friendly choice. Have I sold you yet? (Note: I am not an affiliate of Wolford. I just really, really love their tights.)
What to wear with my favorite tights? On the weekends, I wear dresses by brands like French Connection and Leota. I am not a pants person, but I have two kids, so it’s an absolute requirement that my weekend clothes be machine washable. That’s why these dresses are perfect. They make you look put together, but you can spill on them and get them dirty without feeling too bad about it. Plus, as a bonus, I can even wear some of them to work.
These boots are one of my favorite purchases ever. I bought them in 2010 and still wear them several times a week in the fall/winter. They were the most expensive thing I ever purchased, but considering the cost per wear, I think they are a great value. You don’t have to pay full price for these, however. They are often listed on TheRealReal , so, if you like them, you should search there often.
These weatherproof boots are a new favorite. I used to wear Uggs in the winter (I probably lost all my credibility by saying that.) Yes, they are hideous, but they were so comfortable and easy to put on. My Uggs were my “dog walking” shoes, my “taking the kids to the playground before coffee” shoes, and my “commute on the Metro” shoes. This year, I decided I just couldn’t wear them any longer. I therefore purchased the above pair from Nordstrom. These things are awesome. They are comfortable, easy to put on (they have a zipper), and waterproof. They even have crampon-like accessories built-in for when it’s icy. I can’t wait to wear them!
Last, but not least, my favorite item for transforming your look is lipstick – specifically, the high pigment lip pencils from Bite Beauty. Until recently, I was not a lipstick person. I swore by my Dr. Pepper Lip Smacker for just a hint of color. In February last year, however, a lovely Sephora salesperson turned me on to these lip pencils. Originally, I only purchased Rhubarb (my “go to” everyday color), but I’ve since expanded to several different colors. I’m wearing Pomegranate today – the perfect orangy-red. If you only buy one thing for the fall, I recommend a lipstick. Nothing makes you look better and feel more confident than this simple beauty item.
